L.E.E.D. (Leadership In Energy and Environmental Design)

Alumicor is a leading Canadian supplier of Architectural Aluminum products. Alumicor operates out of 4 facilities in Canada and has been in operation since 1959.

Alumicor is a supporter of the  “LEED” program both through the Canadian Green Building Council (CaBGC) and the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

Alumicor can supply architecturally extruded aluminum that has a minimum pre-consumer (post industrial) recycled content of 40% and greater. Alumicor will also provide the required documentation on the recycled billet used for your project specifically. We are also fortunate to have a number of extruders at our disposal who are able to supply the recycled extrusion.  Unlike many of our competitors who have their own re-melt facility; our suppliers have a greater number of sources to locate the recycled Aluminum billet that is in high demand and short supply.

Currently Alumicor is not in a position to carry a complete inventory of products made from both recycled billet and primary billet. Therefore we are looking to be involved on a project to project basis. This means that deliveries can be expected to be longer as the recycled billet must be sourced and then extruded.

Alumicor has provided a state of the art anodizing service since 1976. This high capacity, environmentally friendly process produces a fine degree of color uniformity and coating consistency. Anodizing is available in a range of standard colors such as clear, bronze and black. Electrolytic anodizing is a superior aluminum finish which is the least harmful to the environment. It should be noted that the blend of primary billet and recycled billet can lead to inconsistency of finish. This includes possible surface marks and discoloration.  Unfortunately there is no guarantee in this situation.

When a custom color or painted finish is required Alumicor can provide paint from PPG Canada Inc. PPG supplies quality paint products under the Pittsburgh® Paint, Lucite® and Olympic® brands. These products are formulated for maximum performance, while meeting the environmental standards required in the Canadian marketplace.

Please take note when specifying color or finish, Alumicor suggests product finishes with longer lasting properties (Anodized, Duranar, and lighter colors for less heat transmittance).

Alumicor Products and LEED

Alumicor has a full range of glazing systems designed to best suit your project and environmental concerns.

High Performance products to improve thermal performance such as our B.F. 2000 unitized systems, 5000 series frameless vents, 2500 and 2200 series double and triple glazed curtain wall systems just to name a few.

Natural ventilation with our S.V. 2000 rotating ventilator, 1100 series operable windows and permanent shading devices custom made to meet your project needs.

Alumicor understands the need to create responsible and energy efficient buildings. That is why we have incorporated high performing thermal breaks in all our glazing systems for energy efficiency and atmospheric control.

Alumicor can also provide information on energy efficient sealed units and insulated spandrel lights to give your project optimal performance. All of which can be incorporated into Alumicor’s systems.

Alumicor’s glazing systems have been independently tested to meet the highest performance standards in Canada and the United States today.

We offer an extensive line of window systems to accommodate natural daylight in high occupancy areas. Please contact the Alumicor representative in your area to discuss what would best be suited for your project.

Finally, at the end of a buildings life cycle, all of the products that Alumicor uses are recoverable and landfill able, and a high majority of them being recyclable.

LEED transportation requirements and Alumicor

Proprietary product such as vents and doors are manufactured in Alumicor’s facilities for quality control purposes. All other fabrication will be done by the successful Glazing contractor in a facility within the project area and adhering to LEED transportation guidelines.

Alumicor has and will continue to investigate other means of transportation in order to adhere to and meet LEED transportation guide lines. An example is rail transportation, which is currently not popular in this industry.

All materials (including materials to be fabricated by local prequalified glazing contractors) will be assessed for the best environmentally friendly means of transportation.

Documentation of shipping will be provided.

Summary

We hope that this knowledge will enable your firm to deem Alumicor as a successful supplier. We look forward to working together with your firm on any environmentally friendly buildings. Alumicor appreciates being part of a project that protects the environment and acts responsibly towards everyone’s future.
